Meet Kylie, #1 Ranked Cairn Terrier.

(From 11/15/06)
AmCan CH. Ashwood Kendric's American Idol-- aka--"Kylie" has had her share of accolades. Not only did she take the Cairn Terrier Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club's ultra-prestigious all-champion show in February 2006, she's also racked up enough points (one point for each dog she's beaten) to garner an invitation to January Eukanuba National for the third time in so many years. This status has guaranteed her a place in the entry for Westminster 2007.

In October, at the annual All-Terrier Specialty Show in Montgomery County, PA, Kylie added a Best in Specialty Show-- this one bigger than the several others she's managed to snag-- to her resume. This is the "mother of all terrier specialty shows" attracting the best dogs from all over the country and many from all over the world.

Kylie's success is hardly random. She's a spirited girl with a lovely head, beautiful movement and the vivacity and attitude that is harder to come by in a bitch (female) than in a dog. Males, in general, tend to exhibit more "showiness" than bitches.

Of significance is that her maternal grandsire is CH. Rose Croft Best Foot Forward, a "phenom" and history-maker in his own right. "Teddy" was bred by Jerrie Wolfe and loved and campaigned to a record-smashing seventeen Best in Show wins by Trish Watson and Mark McDonald (Bizzy B Cairn Terriers) of Campbell, CA.

Kylie-- ranked #1 in the breed in both Breed Points--which many breed purists consider the more flattering of the two categories, the other being Group Placement Points-- where she also leads the pack. Best in Specialty Shows, Terrier Group placements abound, and she has earned a coveted Best in Show in 2006-- the first Cairn terrier bitch to have won a Best in Show since 1996.

This is not a minor feat for a Cairn terrier as the breed is not noted for the elegant "formally attired"-- okay-- GROOMED appearance of other members of the Terrier Group. If groomed to standard, they're a bit scruffy-- a sort of "tidied dishevelment" describes it, so even Group placements aren't as common for Cairn terriers than they are for the more every-hair-in-place terrier breeds such as Wire Fox Terriers or Norwich or Norfolk Terriers.

Judy Sheer of Huntington, NY and Joseph Vernuccio (Ashwood Cairn Terriers) of Stratford, CT co-bred and co-own Kylie. Joe has been with her every step of the way-- from whelping box to The Big Show as groomer, owner/handler, and "housemate."

Four-and-a-half-year-old Kylie will likely bring her "specials" show career to a close while this charismatic little bitch is still ridin' high with enough vim and vigor for the pitter patter of little paws of prospective motherhood.
